Fixes

Well, thanks to our great friend Dan O'Connor, we now have a website in working order. As you will notice, the newest posts are at the top of the page. I was kindly informed by Dan that we have been doing this thing all wrong from the start - we are supposed to have the newest info at the top and not at the bottom. So he fixed it.
And, notice that the dates from now on will be somewhat correct, but in order for Dan to fix what we did wrong I had to make up some dates for what we posted earlier.... so, the other dates are sometimes close and sometimes not close. Ignore the dates.
There you have it.
Take care

Knee Braces

The shed roofs on our house need knee braces to help support them in the event of heavy snow. Well, a couple weeks ago they sure got their test without the braces, and although they held up fine, we decided to add them for insurance. Kevin made the first one and I made the other 5. Had a carpenter install since we were not about to climb up there and do it. Nice work by Josh!

We continue to move ahead! Might have electric all roughed in by tomorrow.

Grinder Debbie

Deb takes a hand with the Don’s new grinder that he got for Christmas. She had to trim off some bolts from the steel post to accomodate the last of the framing.

Looking From The Dining Area To The West

Now that the lower biggest of the big windows are in the living area, it should be relatively easy to install the last three.... although they do weigh about 4-500 pounds each.. but now all we have to do is lift them up about 8 inches instead of 25 feet!

Deck at Dark

It was getting late but had to take this pic... the magic deck as Kevin called it - it floats up there!

Kevin and Nick Up High

These guys worked off of a glorified pallet for most of the work on the deck and the high window installation... crazy.

Nick Is Back!

Nick came back for Christmas Holidays for more fun working on our house. He is a great help. Here, he nails plywood to our screened porch.

Snow Drifts on the Roof

A ton of snow means huge drifts on the roof. Normally would not have this much snow on the roof if the house was being heated. But, no heat = neat looking drifts.

Bake Oven And Storage Cabinet

This shot shows the little storage cabinet we will use for baking sheets and other baking gear.. What is extra neat is the shelves are made of stone, and the door will also be made of stone! How cool is that? Travis looks on and admires the crew’s workmanship.

Snowy Sunset

It has snowed over 2 ft in last 7 days and more is on the way....
despite all the delays it has caused on the house - electric, plumbing, window installation, stucco, etc, it has left us with some magnificent scenery on and around the property.... This was a magical scene taken at sunset from our screened porch.

Screened Porch

Screened Porch is framed in and tar paper on roof. Deb looks out ..... and then gets back to work. Overall, we like working in any weather. Every little bit we do gets us closer to the finish line...

Although we love looking at the ocean, our “foreground view” is just as nice.

Eagle in the View

If you look close you will see a wintering bald eagle perched in a large douglas fir tree. Aside from the eagle we thought the view from our porch was terrific.

Wood Storage

To the right of the firebox will be a wood storage bin. Here, it is about ready to receive the stone lid.

Screened Porch

Another wonderful niche to the house is the screened porch area that will be the access to the decks. Our plan was to have an “outdoor” room with a roof for inclement weather...we will add screens and windows (that we plan to make ourselves) that will flip up inward when the weather dictates...
